Labour Weekend Wrap

Well, Al was away up in Taupo all weekend helping James Parker in his first time racing the Ray White Pro 7 plus Car. He arrived home last night after much drama with their service vehicle blowing a head gasket in Wellington and after absolutely no help from the interislander ferry staff, missed their boat and caught the next one 2 hours later. They managed to crawl off the ferry, store the van and hire a rental car and drive home to Christchurch late last night. At least that was the only drama of the weekend, save for him nearly missing his flight up to Auckland Thursday night had it not been for the fact that the checkin staff knew Al from the boys rugby team and rushed his bag on personally as Al ran to the boarding gate! Well, do you really expect it to be easy when you arrive home from work at 6.30pm and final checkin time at the airport is 6.40pm and you haven't packed? Men!

The weather on Sunday here brought rain and hail and was bitterly cold. We went down and hired 6 DVD's and watched them all afternoon and night. I introduced the boys to the old classics, American Pie (although in hindsight probably better for their father to watch that one with them!) and Silence of the Lambs. Katie bowed out of Silence of the Lambs when Buffalo Bill kidnapped the Governers daughter and it left her cat on the windowsill meowing, all she could say was "oh no, who is going to look after her cat!" She decided it was all too much after this.

Monday was a public holiday, and the weather was beautiful. I dropped Katie over to her Nannies place, (Al's mum) and the boys and I went for a big drive to Oxford to Cafe 51 for lunch, and then to the Ashley Gorge river. It was beautiful up there. From there we went to Rangiora for an icecream and then on to Kairakei to visit my nephew Nath in his new house he moved into over the weekend.

We then headed home, Toby and Thomas cooked tea on the BBQ, and we had a nice relaxing evening waiting for Al to come home.
