My Mother Eileen travelled to Australia for 7 days on a pilgrimage to Alice Springs and a journey on the Ghan railway.
Father Kevin from her parish received a monetary gift from the parishioners on the occasion of his 50th year of ordination. It was his dream to travel on The Ghan, so he wanted to spend his gift on that. A group of 11 parishioners and himself went to Sydney for a night, flew to Ayers Rock for a night and watched the sun rise at Uluru (the aboriginal name for Ayers Rock) and then travelled to Alice Springs for 2 nights. They caught The Ghan train and travelled overnight to Adelaide, stayed overnight then travelled home to Christchurch.
She had a wonderful time and visited some places that most of us will probably never see. Good for her!
