January = summer = holiday = Nelson!
Well actually it started in Nelson for a couple of nights with my sister then we drove over to Mapua and set up camp at the "Mapua Leisurepark" for 10 days. Glorious weather and fabulous campsite. Big thank you to Al's mate Andrew for lending us the van for the trip. With the Pajero gone we don't have a tow vehicle for our camping trailer. I'm sure the van enjoyed its packed to the rafters trip up north!
Al and I slept in the end room of the main tent, Katie in one of the dome tents and the boys shared the other.
Al reading the paper in the morning sun
Katie's tent at back right and the boys one at the right.
Reading the paper again!
Behind our site was a bank and over that bank was the sea. It was lovely listening to it lapping at the shore in bed at night when the tide was high. I was standing on that bank to take this photo.
My kitchen pantry and bench!
Kitchen bench with the Fridge Line and Ged loaned us because we couldn't get our normal one in the van with all our gear!
Kitchen, middle room was our family room and the end room our bedroom. Al having an afternoon zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz on the bed down there!

The beach behind our tent. This is the tide out.........
And the tide in. The tide is 3 metres!
The building with the red roof is the Mapua Wharf area. There are several cafes, some gorgeous shops and galleries and a brewery here. The boys would walk down when the tide was going out and jump off the wharf and float back on the tide to the camp ground.
New Year's Eve, Al and I sat on the beach watching the sunset with a glass of wine while the kids were off enjoying themselves out and about in the campground.

Tea time! Nachos tonight.... camp style!
Thomas and Al on dishes duty in the camp kitchen.
Shave and tooth brushing time.
