Holiday Catch up - Part 1 Sydney

I have just spent the past 9 days in Australia with a friend and it was fantastic!

We were up at 4am, at the airport at 5am, departed at 7am and after putting our clocks back 2 hours arrived in Sydney at 8.30am their time.

After checking into our hotel, The Rydges World Square, we hit the shops. The QVB had the most amazing Christmas tree that went from the bottom floor, all the way up to the 3rd floor, impossible to get a photo of the whole thing obviously.

Just the top section!

2 more floors below this to the ground!

We had lunch and a wine at Darling Harbour (which I just love), and enjoyed the sunshine, but didn't stop for too long for fear of not wanting to move on!

We shopped all afternoon, splitting up for a few hours and meeting back at the hotel late afternoon for a freshen up and wine and headed off to a Thai restaurant for tea.

We were shattered by about 10pm, after having been up for 20 hours!

The next day we got up and went for a walk at 7am all the way to the harbour bridge, over it and back again and had breakfast in the Rocks area. It was sooooo very hot for that time of the morning, and soon found out not to order a bottle of water at a cafe, it was $6 and wasn't your ordinary plastic water bottle!

We got back to our hotel about 9am and got ready to face another day of shopping, not to be stopped in any way by the annual Santa parade that packed the streets and closed many of them. We soon found out that you could walk through tunnels under the road in order to cross them! Yay for us.

Darling Harbour by night.

We headed back to Darling Harbour for dinner that night and enjoyed some lovely seafood and salad and a pina colada!

The next morning we were up walking at 7am and headed this time to the opera house, had breakfast at a cafe near the wharf then walked back.

We checked out of our hotel and asked the first taxi a price to the airport to pick up our rental car. He said $40 at the least. We were not happy with this so walked on a bit towing our bags and a taxi pulled up to us and asked us if we were going to the airport and when asked how much he said no more than $30! He was a Lebanese guy having been in Australia for 20 years and was such a great guy. The fare came to $27 so we just gave him $30.

After picking up our rental car we hit the highway to Canberra.......
