Weekend Wrap

Friday night we went out to dinner to a local pizza/pasta restaurant 'La Porchetta' and took Toby's friend James. He is going back home to Korea next weekend to continue his schooling. He has been living in NZ with a host family for the past 2 years going to school and learning English. He is a delightful boy and he will miss our country, and the friends he has made, a lot. He stayed overnight with us and came to watch Toby play rugby on Saturday morning.

After the meal we went across to an electronics store to get another pair of earplugs for Katie's Ipod (I swear this is probably the 10th pair she has had!) and while there Toby and I had a play on an Apple I Mac computer. Toby found a programme that distorts images and did these 2 photos of him and I. As awful as they look I have not laughed so much in ages, so much so the tears were streaming down my face and everyone who came into the store was looking at us weird and avoiding that part of the store! And that was before they had seen the hideous images on the huge screen! Suffice to say we deleted the images from the programme before we left the store. I went to the counter with Katie to get her earplug things and the guy serving us couldn't wipe the smile off his face, he quietly said "it's a great computer isn't it"

Saturday's rugby game for Toby was freezing, sleety showers and incredibly cold. It is winter I guess, but the conditions were atrocious. The Team won the game 43-7 and we couldn't get home fast enough.

On the way home from rugby I got a call from Al to say his car had been towed away. He was at a funeral with his elderly Mother and Katie and they went to leave and found the car missing. It had been ordered towed by a parking attendant because he was parked 500mm too close to a driveway. What is with these people, when on a very cold wet Saturday outside a church where obviously a funeral was taking place they have to patrol a suburban street getting cars towed! I know they are only doing their job but sometimes surely a bit of leniency can be shown under the conditions. That's $110.00 we have to fork out now in fines.

Saturday night Thomas competed in a swimming carnival, a nice easy meet where he is racing the clock for his own Personal Best (PB) times. He enjoyed the 4 events he entered and got PB ribbons for them all only because he had not had official times for them before, but they were all quite slow times. Of course this is all because he has been out of the pool for 6 weeks while he had his broken wrist and his fitness has obviously been affected greatly. It will be interesting to watch his times improve at the next meet when his fitness level should be back to normal.

Yesterday Katie and I went to a baby shower for my nephew Mark and his partner Sarah, they are due to have their first baby in August. It was a great afternoon tea and a chance to catch up with my sister, nephew and niece and my Mother.

Only 12 sleeps until Katie heads off to Sydney for World Youth Day. She has been very lucky to receive some Australian Dollars spending money from her Aunty Line & Uncle Ged in Nelson and also from her godmother Bernadette last week. We are checking through her belongings to make sure she has plenty of socks, underwear and t-shirts to take and that they can be packed as small as poss because there is nowhere to wash anything for the 10 days they are gone. She is more worried about the possibility of not being able to shower every day and whether her hair straighteners will fit into the packing plan! I'm concentrating on enabling her cell phone to roam while she is away. Completely different priorities!
